The first knee jerk is right there in the title.
This team is done and they have no life left. Aaron Rodgers ripped it right out of them. Hey guys, he’s pretty good! Did we forget that when we were all picking the Eagles to win on Sunday? I’m dumb, you’re dumb, WE’RE ALL DUMB for falling once again for this Eagles football team. A team that is so flawed that it should have never been in the playoff conversation in the first place. Damn you, 3-0 start.
Last night was an embarrassment. Being inside of that stadium hurt. It was also one of the quickest losses I’ve ever been a part of. The game was over pretty quickly and got so bad that the stadium was empty in the middle of the 4th quarter. Fans were fed up with the squad for the second straight year. So very frustrating.
Let’s get to the knee jerks
Stop thinking about the playoffs:
Even if they win next week, just stop thinking about the playoffs. This team isn’t good enough to be in the playoff hunt and even though they’re technically in the thick of it, that’s just masked by the 3-0 start that they had. Everyone around them is playing better football. They’ve lost 6 of 8, their defense still can’t get any pressure, their corners are getting exposed on a week in and week out basis and their receivers aren’t there to help Carson, who people are dumbly starting to waver their confidence in. If you get your hopes up that this team can make the playoffs, you’re just going to get crushed. Don’t fall for this team again.
Why did we invest $100+ in Fletcher Cox?
This is so knee-jerky and I almost feel a bit sick saying it, but why did we invest so much in a defensive tackle? Is Fletcher a nice player? Sure. Is an elite top 5 defensive player? Probably not.
The guy hasn’t had a sack since fucking Detroit and he killed us for the THIRD time this season on a penalty that would have changed momentum in our favor. He’s not playing like the $100 million dollar man that he is and if you look around the league, the teams that win Super Bowls don’t invest long term in defensive tackles. Now, Bennie Logan’s contract is going to come up and you can rest assured that he’s going to get close to $100 million as well. At this point, I don’t know if that’s worth the money.
That defensive line was garbage last night.
Doug doesn’t get the Brett Brown treatment:
No way does Doug get the Brett Brown treatment. This team has talent, he has a QB, a good running game and a competent defense. He has things to work with, but once again, I’m not sure he fully knows what he’s doing out there. It’s like sometimes he just forgets what he can do. There’s no way in hell he knew that if he challenged that play last night and got it right he would have been out of challenges. He just challenged it for the sake of challenging it. He’s lucky that didn’t come back to bite him in the ass because his tenure here might have been cut short. Still, the signs are all there for a late game clock management meltdown– I can just feel it.
ALSO, how are you going to run the ball 14 times?! I mean are you serious? You preach all week about balance and yadadada, but then to just blatantly spit on that idea was appalling. Smallwood was actually doing a decent job and was averaging about 4.1 yards per carry. I mean holy shit Doug, everyone on their couch knows that this team is better when they establish the run; how can you not see that?
This is going to end horribly.
The Eagles are not a bad team:
WUUUUUUT, bet you didn’t see that one coming. I think the Eagles are a brutally average football team that has pieces, and a franchise QB, but also has HUGE flaws that they just can’t overcome at the moment. The Eagles have the makings of an elite team with some help from this upcoming draft and in free agency. I HATE building through free agency, but when you draft as horribly as they did under Chip, it sort of forces your hand a bit. Here’s the thing, bad teams don’t blow out the Steelers, Falcons and Vikings, but good teams also don’t lose some of the ways that they have. Also, they were very close to being a 6-5/7-4 team right now instead of 5-6. Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way.
My point is that I think this Eagles team is close to being good enough to compete for a playoff spot. Draft well, hit on free agents and you could be right there. It’s just super hard to hear that right now before December has even begun.
While it was fun……….. Damn you, 3-0 start.
