— Story by Brian McLaughlin @B_McGLOCK
Honestly, I really like what the Birds have done so far. Sidney Jones at 43 not only shows a ton of balls, but it shows a commitment to winning and building something great. Only time will tell if it was the right decision or not.
There are, however, still holes to be filled on this roster and while the focus on defense is great, they have neglected a few other areas of need thus far.
Let’s take a look at what to expect today and how they may address a few of those needs.
Round 4) 118, 139
Round 5) 155
Round 6) 194
Round 7) 230
Biggest need: Running Back
I would come right out of the chute and go RB at 118. Joe Douglas hit a home run on day 3 last year with drafting Jordan Howard. Howard went on to be the NFL’s second leading rusher. Let’s do it again Joe!
I would come right out of the chute and go RB at 118. Trading up is also a possibility. The Birds traded up for the first pick in round 4 of the 2013 draft and selected Matt Barkley.
Marlon Mack – South Florida
5’11, 213 lbs.
2016 stats: 174 carries, 1,187 yards, 15 tds- 28 catches, 227 yards
I mentioned Mack as a possible sleeper earlier this week. Mack is a better Wendell Smallwood in my opinion and he fits what the Eagles want to do. He could be a real nice find this late.
Samaje Perine – Oklahoma
5’11, 233 lbs
4.65/40- 30 reps of 225 lbs
Career stats: 685 carries, 4,122 yards 49 tds
I like Perine a lot. He is a bruiser and maybe that’s something the Eagles need. He could be a nice compliment to Smallwood if that’s how they played it out. While it’s nice to have well rounded backs, do we really need a wide receiver playing running back? Perine is ranked 65th overall on Gil Brandt’s big board. He could be an Eagle.
Brian Hill – Wyoming
6’1, 219 lbs
2016 stats: 349 carries, 1,860 yards, 22 tds- 8 catches, 67 yards.
Hill was insane last season and has the makings of an every down back. Ray Didinger likes Hill so that alone is enough for me to be happy if the Eagles draft him.
Wayne Gallman – Clemson
Jamaal Williams – BYU
Done Pumphrey – SDSU
Other positions that may be addressed…
Dede Westbrook – Oklahoma, 5’11 178, 4.3/40 (off the field issues, but insane talent)
Malachi Dupree – LSU, 6’2 ½ 196 lbs., 4.5/40
Josh Malone – Tennessee, 6’3, 208 lbs., 4.4/40 (featured on the sleepers list)
Vince Biegel – OLB- Wisconsin, 6’3, 246 lbs., 4.67/40
Elijah Lee – OLB- Kansas State, 6’2 229 lbs. 4.69/40 (featured on the sleepers list)
Anthony Walker Jr. ILB – Northwestern- 6’0 238 lbs. 4.65/40
Ben Gideon – ILB- Michigan- 6’1, 244 lbs. 4.75/40
Corner? Crazy talk, but there are still a few good ones available….
Damontae Kazee- SDSU (featured on the sleepers list) Stud!
Corn Elder – Miami
Nate Hairston – Temple
I am 100 percent sure the Eagles draft a RB (or 2) today and I would imagine it would be as early as pick 118.
We’ll see if they add a lineman (offensive, defensive or both) as well. Can Howie go the entire draft without a trade? Doubt it. Hopefully the Eagles can finish this draft out strong!
