When your team has lost 8 of 10 after starting 3-0, there isn’t a lot to be happy about. This will be the third straight season that the Eagles have not made the playoffs. Something that has not happened since the 97, 98, and 99 seasons.
Normally when your team is eliminated, fans can at least look forward to a higher draft pick. Not even that can ease our pain this year because the Birds first round fate will be determined by the Minnesota Vikings.
I needed to find something, anything to possibility lift the spirits of this fan base. So I did some digging and came up with something that at least intrigued me.
For the first time, the Eagles will be one of the teams on the NFL list that could potentially be forced to be featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks.
If no team volunteers to be on the show, the NFL can pick from a list of “eligible” teams.
Teams can be exempt if:
- They have a first year head coach.
- They have a playoff birth in the last 2 seasons
- They have appeared on the show in the past 10 years.
The Eagles cannot be exempt.
Would you be excited to see the Eagles on Hard Knocks?
People may think that this would be a distraction.
I personally would be all in for the in-depth look at the Philadelphia Eagles. It would be great to see exactly what the hell is going on with this franchise.
Reporters can only report so much, this would give us a look like never before.
I’m sure Eagles management, especially Howie Roseman, would welcome it. Roseman once had his own radio show and has never been shy from the spotlight.
The Philadelphia market would be a huge draw for the show. It is not often that this big of an east coast market meets the criteria to be on the show. I’m sure the NFL would jump at this opportunity.
So here is a list of the “eligible” teams. You be the judge.
New Orleans Saints– It looks like Sean Payton should be back. Saints would be a team that the NFL could force. I still feel like Philadelphia is a much better draw.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers– If Tampa makes the playoffs they would be exempt. If not, they would make a very good choice.
Chicago Bears– Chicago would also be a huge market, but John Fox should be fired at seasons end, in that case they would be exempt.
San Francisco 49ers– Chip Kelly may not be back, but if he is the 49ers can be chosen. I think the Chip luster has really worn off league wide. Also the 49ers suck. They would have plenty of position battles which would make for good TV. We’ll see.
Buffalo Bills– If Rex Ryan is out, the Bills are exempt.
Cleveland Browns– I can’t imagine the NFL would want to showcase the Browns, but I guess it could be a feel good story.
Jacksonville Jaguars– Gus Bradley will be fired, so they won’t be a choice.
Indianapolis Colts– Pagano has to be gone right? The Colts could also make the playoffs.
Tennessee Titans– Titans are still very much alive in the playoffs. If they miss the playoffs they would make for an interesting choice.
San Diego Chargers – Mike McCoy looks like he will be coming back. If they move to LA they could be in contention, but Hard Knocks was just in LA last season.
Regardless of playoff outcomes and coaching changes, Philadelphia is far and away the best choice. If I am the NFL I absolutely feature the Eagles.
The team that will be featured will not be announced until May, and while the Eagles are far from a lock it is definitely something to keep an eye on.
I am all for it!
