Eagles- How I was so, so WRONG
Hey, I said this team was going to the playoffs……
Turns out…they don’t have a chance in hell at making the playoffs.
I was wrong!
I admit it!
I thought Green Bay sucked. In reality, it was the Eagles who sucked.
When I say the Eagles suck, I mean everyone but Carson Wentz.
This kid is a rock star. He has been playing by himself virtually all season!
He does have Zach Ertz… LOL
I have been pretty positive all season.
It was clear to me coming into this season that the Birds were at least 2 or 3 years away from being a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
So of course I believe (and always believed) that this would be a work in progress. This season was a rebuild, which everyone agreed with in August, but now no one wants to admit in November.
Somewhere along the lines, I (mistakenly) bought into the notion that this defense was good. That thought started to make me believe that this team could possibly make a run to the postseason.
So now, the king of positivity is kind of pissed off.
There are 3 individuals that I feel have really let this team down this season.
HINT: most of them make a lot of money!!!!!!
Another HINT: 1 loves the ocean drive…..
1. Fletcher Cox
This guy is good, but a true Super Bowl winning team doesn’t deal out the kind of money to a D-tackle like the Eagles did with Cox.
He hasn’t had a sack since the Detroit game!!!
His 3 roughing the passer penalties (has to lead the league) have all been on 3rd down.
The phrase “well, he is always double teamed” really isn’t true. Cox was rarely doubled teamed vs a bad and depleted Green Bay front.
$102 million, 64 guaranteed. Please! That is QB money. I hated the contract when it happened, and I hate it more now. He is a very good player, he’s not a franchise player, sorry.
All 3 of Fletcher Cox’s roughing the passer penalties have come on 3rd down and would have ended drives. All 3 eventually resulted in TDs.

That’s three personal fouls and no sacks for Fletcher Cox since Week 5.

2. Jason Kelce
What a disaster.
Honestly, he was never that great. He just has beard, buys into the Philly vibe and is a cool dude, so people like him.
He puts more snaps on the ground than I have ever seen in my life.
I know he had one (over publicized) “good” block vs Atlanta, but in reality, he has been brutal all season.
I would love to have an electric lemonade with him at the OD on a Sunday in June, but I do not want him to be on my offensive line, let alone be one of the vocal leaders of my team.
He stinks, end of story.
Jason Kelce’s holding penalty was his team-leading 8th. Killer anywhere, but hurts more in red zone and when it appeared didn’t need to grab

Low snap from Jason Kelce causes Eagles to lose 10 yards on 2nd and 10.

3. Zach Ertz
Boy-o-boy, what a letdown.
38 receptions, 373 yards, 1 TD.
That’s Ertz stat line this season, for a team with 1 NFL caliber receiver!!
He is also 26, so he is not getting any younger.
I loved him coming out of college. I thought he would be a Greg Olsen/ Gronk type.
Harsh reality: He’s not.
For a guy who just signed a fat 6 year $43.64 million extension with $20 mil guaranteed, he’s not even close to the player that he should be.
Zach Ertz is just like Gronk in that he is also a person.

Honorable mention of suck:
LANE JOHNSON!!! Leodis McKelvin, Nolan Carroll, Vinny Curry, and every wide receiver on the roster!
I love Wentz, but he was truly on his own. When this kid gets some actual NFL talent around him, the possibilities will be endless.
They started out 3-0 so of course I overrated this team as the season went on, but I do believe there is a lot to look forward to. This was just year 1 of the rebuild, and there is no question that the Eagles are much further ahead than anyone could have anticipated.
I was wrong about playoffs this season, but if they can add some talent, and Wentz continues to develop, they should be in playoff contention next season.
Hopefully this time I will get it right!
