Is it a knee-jerk to say that I don’t exactly feel all warm inside because the Eagles won a game against the third stringers for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday afternoon?
People are acting like this is a momentum building moment for this team, and while I agree in some senses (like for Carson), overall these games mean little heading into next year. With the amount of roster turnover that could happen with this Eagles team heading into next season, these wins were nice, but I just wouldn’t put too much stock into them.
Now, with all of that being said, I do think these last three games were important for Carson. For starters, I don’t think Carson has been that sharp these last three weeks, but what I will say is that I think Carson is learning how to win and grind out games. That final drive in Baltimore is the first time I’ve really seen him grind out a drive to put his team in position to win. Since then, he’s had his mistake, but he’s making more plays with his feet and finding out how to win these games. I will put stock into Carson’s end of the year, but not the teams overall.
I’m buying into Zach Ertz’s late season surge…
Ugh, I can’t believe I’ve bought in, but I swear this time it will be different! He’s changed! He promised he would never hurt me again!
Was that a little too much? Comparing Eagles fans relationships with Zach Ertz and common excuses to get back with an ex? Probably, but that’s how I feel about our relationship with Ertz. He’s done this before. Ended the season on a tear only so people talk about how next year will be Ertz’s breakout year. The difference is that this time, I’m buying in. Ever since his phantom block against the Bengals, Ertz has been a machine and is actually seeking out contact rather than shying away. Him and Carson are forming a nice connection and Ertz will have a whole offseason to work with the QB that will be here for the foreseeable future. Add in some more weapons around Carson and Ertz, and you probably see the targets for #86 go down, but his effectiveness go up. I also think Doug understands the importance of Ertz and getting him involved, so I would expect more of that next season.
Please don’t let us down again, Zach.
Jordan Hicks becoming the Dallas-Stangler is an awesome turn of events:
Hicks had two more picks of Dallas QB’s yesterday to bring his total to four picks in four games against the Cowboys. He also has broken collarbone for Tony Romo on his resume as well. For some reason, the guy just makes plays against the Cowboys. Does he like to show-up his home town team? I don’t know, but it is awesome and so important going forward. I hope Cowboys fans have nightmares of Hicks the night before games next season.
Some awesome Jordan Hicks factoids:
- He has 11 takeaways in his first 24 games, which makes him the first LB to do that since Jack Ham almost 44 years ago.
- He has 7 INT’s in his first 24 games, which is the fastest since Al Richardson in 1980-81
Have we almost underrated the beginning of Hicks’ career? He’s seamlessly become the best linebacker on the Eagles in a little under two years and it’s like we just expect him to be awesome. Because he is awesome.
Hicks may have been the only draft pick Chip nailed while being here but it was an important one.
I don’t know how to feel about the Mike Trout bro-fest with the Eagles but it makes my heart warm
Maybe I don’t know how to feel because we’re basically saying that Mike Trout is going to be a Phillie one day, but like, he’s not. He’s the best player in baseball for the Anaheim Angels, not the Philadelphia Phillies. Still, I guess if we put in the work now he’ll remember and win championships with Carson. I really don’t know, but it makes my heart warm..
