The Eagles chose not to let Doug Pederson speak at the end of the season for a reason — he’s f*cking terrible at it. Sadly, as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles, Dougie P will have to speak to the media – by mandate – and yesterday was one of those times. And while Doug’s performance wasn’t close to as bad as it’s been in the past, he certainly wasn’t good. Furthermore, the only reason he was “better” was because he couldn’t double down on any atrocious in-game decisions. The real issue for me is that every time this dude opens his mouth I become less and less confident in him being the man to run my favorite football team. Is that fair? Probably not, but it’s how I feel. Doug oozes “uninspiring” whenever his trap opens. He’s just bad at it. Granted, it’s certainly possible that he’s just shitty at talking to the media – and it has zero effect on his ability to be a head coach. But man, it’s hard for me to get excited about the guy when he does stuff like this:
Q: Can you talk about where Carson Wentz is right now?
Doug: Well I don’t know where he is right now.
Q: In terms of development
— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) March 29, 2017
Now could he have been joking? Sure. I guess so. But it didn’t sound like he was – and taking it a step further, with the reputation Doug (already) has as a talker, it would be stupid for him to “joke” like this and add fuel to the fire. But that’s neither here nor there, the issue is that Pederson comes off like a buffoon every time he speaks into a microphone. And before you @ me, I’m not saying I think he’s a buffoon, just that he comes off like one. I mean, he had a few answers where he paused for multiple seconds at a time. Like, 5-to-10 second pauses. It just sounds…bad.
Ultimately, it all comes back to Pederson being uninspiring. There are only 32 men on the planet who can say they are the head coach of an NFL football team — 32! Again, I’m not saying Doug Pederson isn’t qualified to be one of those 32 – I’m just saying that every time he talks I get less and less sure he should be one. Alright, that’s enough Doug for me. However, for anyone who wants more Doug, here are 19 takeaways from the takeaway king Brandon Lee Gowton. Lastly, before we dive head first into some news and notes, a quick word of condolence to anyone who spent an hour (a f*cking hour!) listening to Doug speak – I’m trying to think of something I’d rather do less than listen to Doug for an hour and I got nothing. So…yeah. Anyhoo, let’s get to it – news and notes after the jump.
I said I was done with Doug; that was a lie. Well, only a half lie really. I’m not going to be talking about Doug, but I’m going to tell you about some people who are – which will also lead to me commenting on things about or related to Doug. So, I guess it’s a full lie. Sorry, you guys. I’m a liar. Now, let’s talk about people talking about Doug!
Well, more specifically we’ll be talking about things that Doug said more than Doug himself so…half lie again? Either way, Doug was asked about Joe Mixon and it has led many to believe the Eagles will be “in” on Mixon. Sigh. In case you missed, here’s me hoping the Eagles don’t draft him.
Want more on Mixon? I don’t. I want none of him. But if you’re not like me, here’s TMac with more on Pederson addressing the Mixon situation.
Pederson also discussed the (seeming) glut of offensive lineman, claiming that he expects Jason Kelce to be back with the team next season. I find this hard to believe. It just doesn’t make sense to pay Kelce what he’ll cost when the team has multiple other options at center. I’m just not buying it.
Another one I’m not buying is Doug’s belief that Mychal Kendricks will also be on the roster next season. No effing way that dude is an Eagle next year. It’s just not happening. Now either I’m going to look stupid to the small amount of you reading this, or Doug’s going to look stupid to a lot more people. I’m banking on the latter. Speaking of which, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if the front office is just hanging Pederson out to dry here. He may actually have no idea what the team’s intentions are – which would be a smart move by the organization imo, since he hasn’t had the tightest of lips so far. Or maybe Doug’s just a master liar. Hahahahahaha. Sorry, couldn’t help myself. Let’s move on.
And by “move on,” I mean “end this shit.” So…let’s do that. Twitter Time:
“It’s always the head coach and the quarterback.” — Doug Pederson on how much his future is tied to Carson Wentz’s success #Eagles

One of these things in not like the other…
Dalvin Cook is currently in Tallahassee working out with #Eagles personnel.

RE: Oklahoma RB Joe Mixon. Very clear after Jeffrey Lurie and Doug Pederson spoke that the #Eagles will keep him on their draft board.

Joe Mixon’s attorneys schedule April depositions of assault witness and police officer who interviewed victim. Case set for trial on 9/12.

This has to affect his draft status, right?
Incredibly, Mixon’s assault accuser missed the filing deadine for assault claim. Main claim is intention infliction of emotional distress.

Or maybe not…

Sticking with the a-hole theme here…Vote No!
#Saints are signing Chase Daniel to a one-year deal, source said.

Finally some good news. At least the Eagles will recap some money off the cap now. Separate topic, is there a better gig than backup QB in the NFL?
Biggest takeaway from owners meetings: Seahawks have made it clear that if teams want Richard Sherman, now’s a good time to call.
— Sheil Kapadia (@SheilKapadia) March 29, 2017
That’s a pretty big takeaway. Maybe I spoke too soon when I called BLG the king of takeaways – Sheil is giving him a run for his money.
One tidbit on #Cowboys QB Tony Romo: CBS is eyeing him as a potential replacement for Phil Simms in the booth. A big-time opportunity looms.
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 29, 2017
First of all, yes please. Romo would be great in the booth and Simms is the worst announcer in the history of announcing. Seriously – he’s so effing bad I can barely listen to him. Having said that, I don’t see it happening. I think Romo thinks he’s got some football left in him – and I believe he’s going to try and give it one more go. You know who’s not giving it one more go? Me.
