Ok. This is it. This will be my last Sesh before the draft (you’re welcome). As a result, I feel it’s my obligation; my duty to tell you who I think the Eagles should and will take with the 14th pick in the NFL Draft. After writing that, I see how self-indulgent it is – why the f*ck should you care what I think about either? You shouldn’t, buuuut you’re here, so I’m going to take advantage of that and force you to allow me to indulge…in myself.
Here’s what I think the Eagles should do on Thursday night: Take Reuben Foster!
- I would love Fournette or McCaffery, but don’t think either falls. The only true blue-chip prospect who might fall to the Eagles is Reuben Foster. And granted, there are lots of red flags with Foster, but Warren Sapp and Randy Moss fell because of red flags too. At least, so far as we know, Foster hasn’t knocked a woman out cold (don’t draft Joe Mixon!), so that’s good too. Most important, Reuben Foster is a football player. A mean, competitive, intelligent (football smarts), hard-hitting, football player. Take Reuben Foster. *Note: I won’t complain about Barnett, Davis, or even Williams depending on how things plays out.*
Here’s what I think the Eagles will do on Thursday night: Take Charles Harris. #Sadface
- Man. It’s gonna be a bummer if I’m right, but I’m mentally steeling myself already for inevitable disappointment. I don’t know why I’m veering towards pessimism here, but it’s just the feeling I get. I hope I’m wrong, obviously, but Harris seems like the name that sticks out the most to me for a number of reasons – most of which I won’t bore you by chronicling. However, I will say that until Howie Roseman surprises me at the draft (in a positive way), I won’t believe that he can. Maybe Joe Douglas is the magic elixir Howie needs to make me believe, and maybe I should already believe (WENTZ), but I just can’t get myself there. Hopefully, I can Thursday night, which would mean the Eagles didn’t draft Charles Harris.
Alright, thanks for indulging me in my own indulgence. I shall reward you with all the latest NFL Draft and Eagles related news and notes — after the jump.
A player who was likely high on the Eagles’ draft board, may be off it entirely after TMZ Sports dropped this bombshell yesterday:
NFL Prospect Gareon Conley Accused of Rape, Strongly Denies Allegations https://t.co/mSHBRwdI9V
— TMZ Sports (@TMZ_Sports) April 25, 2017
Hopefully this isn’t true. If it is, f*ck Conley. If it’s not, I feel bad for the kid. Either way, it’s impact on the draft will be massive. Unless Conley can somehow clear his name in the next 24ish hours, there’s no way any NFL team can justify drafting him – regardless of how far he falls. We saw a similar situation when La’El Collins went undrafted a couple years ago, and he wasn’t even accused of anything – to be fair, police were “seeking to question” him about a shooting death three days before the draft. If nothing changes Conley will likely also go undrafted after being a lock to go in the first round. Not coincidentally, Conley has changed his plans and will no longer attend the draft in Philly.
Onto some players who, theoretically, could be on the Eagles’ board; Dalvin Cook’s stock has seemed to be falling throughout this draft process, but his grandmother Miss Betty says the Eagles are all-in on him at 14. Miss Betty specifically cites Duce Staley as her “source” that the Eagles want to draft her grandson at 14, but Duce told her he didn’t expect Cook to be available. I doubt Miss Betty would lie (*whispers* she’s probably lying), but I also doubt Duce would tell her anything that substantive. Maybe she misremembered. Regardless, I’d be surprised if Cook’s the pick at 14.
As you know, I wouldn’t be surprised if Harris is the pick. But if they go with an edge rusher, I’m hopeful it’ll be Derek Barnett. Zach Berman discusses both and more as he looks at the potential defensive line options who could be available to the Eagles, should they decide to go that route. Btw, how crazy is it that a Temple football player has a chance to be a top 10 pick? Shout out to Hassan Reddick, I’m rooting for you brother. Go Owls.
Corey Davis is another name in the mix at 14, and as I said yesterday I’d be happy to have him in Philly. Here’s TMac with more on the Western Michigan wide receiver. He seems like a good kid. And I agree with him about the importance of “game speed.”
Speaking of Corey Davis, he’s one of the six players Jack Fritz thinks the Eagles should draft at 14. I agree with Fritz on four of them. My obvious gripe is with Conley, but Fritzy has updated to the piece in light of recent circumstances. I’ll let you guess who the other is, but I’ll give you a hint: It’s Cam Robinson.
I can’t do my last Sesh before the draft and not include some Kiper. In fact, I’m going to Kiper all over your ass with some serious Kiper action. Well, that’s a lie, I’ll be doing nothing of the sort – Instead, I’ll leave that to Jimmy Kempski.
Alright, I think the last few sentences make one thing crystal clear, the end of this Sesh draws nigh. Yup. I just did that. Deal with it. Let’s finish this shit out like we like to do — Twitter Time:
Ehhhh, so this might be wrong. I call erasies. 😨 https://t.co/FopmGGkvkk
— Jimmy Kempski (@JimmyKempski) April 26, 2017
Ooooooooooooh!!! Jimmy is plugged in. Could I get my wish on Foster? Or could Miss Betty actually be right about what Duce said? My head is spinning all of a sudden.
— SPORTSRADIO 94WIP (@SportsRadioWIP) April 25, 2017
Wait a minute, that’s where the Eagles are picking! It’s happening! Jk. At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised with just about anyone except Myles Garrett or a QB at 14.
Tough spot for the Eagles to pick at No. 14 this year considering rumors indicate at least 100 players will go off the board before them.

See? BLG gets it.
— Carson Wentz (@cj_wentz) April 25, 2017
What are the odds Carson wrote this tweet? If you say anything above a 0% chance, then you’re wrong. And yes, I know there is no such thing as 0%, but I rolled with it anyway. Sorry not sorry.

Cool, but what does it mean? Nothing? Oh, my bad. It means nothing. Moving on.
Watson on teams taking Trubisky before him-“Hey man, you’re gonna have to live with the consequences that come with it.That’s how I see it,”
— Michael Lombardi (@mlombardiNFL) April 25, 2017
I agree with you DeShaun. It would idiotic for a team to take Mitchell over you. It will prove to be a mistake. I wonder what team might make a mistake like that…
Major #NFLDraft day trade in the works?

Yup. The Browns. God bless the Browns. #ThanksForCarson
Hearing the “Pick Is In” jingle is getting me all excited for Thursday.

My first thought was, “oh cool, Jeter should be an MLB owner.” My second thought was, “wait, wtf?”
— BleedingGreenNation (@BleedingGreen) April 24, 2017
Lastly, one final plea to come out and say hi if you’re heading down to the draft. I’d love to meet all one of you. If you’re not coming down, we’ll talk next week. Enjoy the draft! #SayNoToCharlesHarris
